WHAT IS A VIRAGO?
1: a loud overbearing woman
2: a woman of great stature, strength, and courage
The Virago Collective is dedicated to creating opportunities for artists across all disciplines to connect with their community, each other, and themselves through thoughtful practice.
The Virago Collective is focused on raising community voices. Our intention is to spark dialogue that will lead to meaningful action in a move toward strengthening communities.
Offer classes, workshops, and mentorships to enhance the professional development of artists and help connect them with others in their field.
Promote and support local artists at all levels of their career, across disciplines, in order to share audiences and encourage inspiration among creators.
Highlight voices in the community, particularly those that are underrepresented on stages, including (but not limited to) the voices of women, Black and Indigenous artists, artists of colour, 2SLGBTQIA+ artists, and people with disabilities.
Seek out unique and creative partnerships with local creators, organizations, and businesses in order to make the arts more visible, accessible, and engaging.
